WILLIAM PLEASANT BAXTER
HEADLAND. . .William Pleasant Baxter, a resident of Headland, died late Friday afternoon, May 1, 2015, at his home. He was 87.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 3, 2015, in the Headland United Methodist Church with Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the Headland Methodist Church Family Life Center. A private family graveside service will be held Sunday in the Headland Methodist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Headland United Methodist Church “Family Life Center Fund”, 103 West King Street, or to the Headland Fire & Rescue, 456 East Main Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. Baxter was born in Headland and moved to the Pleasant Plains community with his family as a child. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the closing months of World War II and later as a member of the Headland Army National Guard Unit which was activated during the Korean War. Mr. Baxter was a member of the Headland United Methodist Church, the Brown’s Crossroad Masonic Lodge No. 529 and the Alcazar Shrine Temple in Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Oree Baxter and Georgia Campbell Baxter, a son, Ben Davis Baxter and a brother, Robert McDonald (Bob) Baxter, Sr.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Zona Gayle Davis Baxter, a daughter, Dale Baxter Evans (Olan), Montgomery; a son, Tom Baxter (Virginia), Hoboken, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Ross Evans, Elyse Evans, Campbell Baxter and Diana Baxter; a sister, Helen Powell, Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Missy Davis, Clearwater, FL.; nephews, Donny Baxter, Billy Baxter, Tom Powell, Mark Powell, Phillip Powell and their families.
