HEADLAND…William Stephen “Steve” Snell, a resident of Headland, passed away early Friday morning, April 19, 2019, in UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was 65.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 22, 2019, in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church Headland with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating, and a eulogy to be given by a niece, Lauren Callander. Graveside services, with honors to be rendered by Headland Fire & Rescue, will follow in Gardens of Memory. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Headland Fire & Rescue, 456 E. Main Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Steve was a lifelong resident of Headland, son of the late James Bascom Snell and Faye Carr Snell. He served his country in the Army National Guard in the Headland Unit. Steve attended Wallace Community College where he received a Certificate in Printing. In earlier years, he owned and operated Snell’s Printing and was also formerly employed by Chancey-Herring Publishers/Headland Observer and Dothan Progress. He retired from the City of Headland Fire & Rescue after serving as the Assistant Chief.
Surviving relatives include his son, Jonathan Snell (Kristen), Birmingham; a sister, Sharon Snell Green (Anthony), Headland; a brother, Ronnie Snell (Twila), Texasville; a granddaughter, Mary Ryan Snell; his girlfriend, Patty McArdle; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Matt Hatcher, Brad Snell, Wesley Armstrong, David Marr, Tony Wilkerson and Glenn Temples. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Headland Fire & Rescue and Headland Police Department.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Palliative Care at UAB for the tender care shown to Steve and his family during the final hours of his illness.
