Mr. William Warren “Bill” Smith (First Sergeant, U.S. Army, ret.) of Enterprise passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan.  He was 89.


Graveside funeral services with full military honors will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Enterprise with Reverend Randy Walker officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org).


Mr. Smith was born August 19, 1925 in Fayette, Mississippi, to the late Manton W. and Tillie Geogehegan Smith.  He was devoted to his country, serving in various areas throughout his lifetime.  He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Pacific on the LST 681.   Following his transition to the Army, he served with the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea as well as serving two tours with Army Aviation in Vietnam.  Following his retirement from the Army, he had a career with Civil Service, retiring as an Aviation Maintenance Instructor.  He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Etta Lee Vail Smith and his granddaughter, Donna Travis Beauchene.


Survivors include son, Kenneth Smith (Susan), Enterprise, Barbara Ann Travis (Ron), Panama City, Florida, Bill McClain (Helen), Athens, Georgia; three grandchildren, Shirley Cartrette, Matthew Smith, Megan Smith, two great-grandchildren, Stephanie Fisher, Jenna Cartrette; one great-great-granddaughter, Hannah Fisher.
