William Wayne Granberry, a resident of Montgomery, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was 85.
William Wayne Granberry was born July 14, 1938, in Columbus,
Georgia. He grew up in Tumbleton and the Hebron community in Henry
County, Alabama. Wayne was a graduate of Headland High School,
Sunflower Junior College where he was on a football scholarship, and
Auburn University.
Wayne worked briefly at the Alabama Highway Department and
transferred to Industrial Relations where he retired as a Systems
Analyst in 1998. Wayne was married to Eugenia (Davis) Granberry for
over 63 years and was the father of 2 children, Bill Granberry and
Jenny Granberry Barkley.
Daddy Wayne had 6 grandchildren, Hunter Barkley (Kelsey), Eva
Barkley Adams (Roane), Ally Barkley Murray (Matt), Lissa Barkley, Mary
Granberry, Laura Granberry Adams (Cam) and 2 great-granddaughters,
Willow Adams and Margot Barkley. They were his pride and joy.
His parents, William Carlton Granberry and Ila Mae Chancey, and his
sister, Lenette Granberry Smith, predeceased him.
Wayne is survived by his sisters, Bonnie Granberry Smith and Vicky Granberry Brunelle, and a brother-in-law, Dr. Pat Davis (Georgianne). Wayne was a member of Eastmont Baptist Church in Montgomery. His Sunday school members will serve as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers will be Cam Adams, Roane Adams, Hunter Barkley, Ben Davis, Walt McKean, and Matt Murray.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109, followed by a celebration of life chapel service at 11:00 AM with Reverend Mike Northcutt officiating. Graveside services, with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating, will follow at 3:00 PM Saturday, at Headland Baptist Church Cemetery, 503 East Church Street, Headland, Alabama 36345.
