Willie Edward “Eddie” Hobbs, 87, died on September 12, 2021, after battling an extended illness, at his home in Dothan, AL surrounded by family.


Funeral services with military honors will be held beginning at 2 pm on Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1-2 pm.


Eddie was born December 7, 1933, in Houston County, AL, to Willie and Sammie Mae Hobbs. Eddie lived in Dothan, AL his entire life. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and Reserve from 1955-1963. He married Shirley Jean Hobbs on April 30, 1960. They were married for 61 years.


After serving in the Army, Eddie worked at Speigner Block in Dothan, AL. He later worked for the City of Dothan Electric Department as a lineman where he retired in 1985. When he was not working, Eddie spent his days doing things he loved: fishing, watching westerns, and listening to the Gaither Vocal Band.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Sammie Mae Hobbs of Dothan, AL; brothers, Billy Sam Hobbs, Winton Hobbs, Arthur Hobbs, and Earle Hobbs; and sisters, Betty Sue Bigbee and Earline Burton.


He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Jean Hobbs; a son, William (Tina) Hobbs; daughters, Bonnie (Stanley) Brantley and Michelle (Anthony) Stevens; grandchildren, Amy (TJ) Knight, Keith (Elizabeth) Brantley, Kayla Scott, and Cameron Stevens; six great grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Jean Lee, Joanne Godwin, and Linda Harrell; and a brother, Phillip Hobbs.


Serving as pallbearers will be Phil Hobbs, T.J. Knight, Keith Brantley, Chris Martin, Cole Smith, and Cameron Stevens.
