ABBEVILLE…Willie Frank Barnes, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday afternoon, October 9, 2016, at his home. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 15, 2016, in the Fellowship Baptist Church with Reverend Tim McCraney and Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Robb Cleveland, 5651 State Highway 27, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to Covenant Hospice, 1512 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mr. Barnes was born in the Capps Community of Henry County, son of the late Ewell Norman Barnes and Ouida Danzey Barnes. He was a 1949 graduate of Abbeville High School where he was known on the basketball court as “Hawk Eye”. Mr. Barnes also attended Holmes Jr. College and Troy University. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. Mr. Barnes lived in Pensacola, Florida for thirty-six years before returning to Abbeville in 1990. Mr. Barnes retired from Eastern Airlines at the Pensacola Airport. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years who was the love of his life, Louise Powers Barnes, five brothers, Bennie Barnes, Charles Barnes, Howard Barnes and Earl Barnes and Aaron Barnes and a sister, Sarah Nell Richardson.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Allen Barnes (Lisa), Peachtree City, Georgia; Randy Barnes (Stella), Dothan; Dennis Barnes (Valerie), Pensacola, FL; a brother, David Barnes (Glenda), Abbeville; ten grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Spencer Barnes, Hadyn Barnes, Chandler Barnes, Caleb Barnes, Harrison Barnes and Jake Barnes.
