DOTHAN. . .Willie Grover Burkett, a resident of Dothan, died early Tuesday evening, August 11, 2020, at the home of a son in Ashford. He was 73.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 14, 2020, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Stuart Smith, Pastor Brenda Yon and Reverend Eric Norris officiating. Burial will follow in the Christian Home Church of Christ Cemetery in Wicksburg. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary. Social distancing guidelines and masks will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Branch Congregational Holiness Church, 309 E. Washington Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Burkett was born and reared in Headland, son of the late Archie Lee Burkett and Harriett Irell Bond Burkett. He lived in Ozark before moving to Dothan in 1979. Mr. Burkett was a member of the Rocky Branch Congregational Holiness Church and was active in the Rehobeth Band Boosters. He was retired from the Michelin Corporation as a Machine Operator. Mr. Burkett was preceded in death by three sisters, Gail Wright, Ruby Kelley and Christine Webb, and two brothers, Carl Burkett and Bobby Burkett.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Pasty Sims Burkett; two daughters, Lori Smith (Bill Stubbs), Mobile; and Victoria Hallford (James), Dothan; two sons, Grover Lee Burkett (Windy), Ashford; and Paul Barnes, Dothan; a sister, Sarah Knight, Headland; a brother, Donnie Burkett (Pat), Headland; seven grandchildren, Adam Smith (Amanda), Emily Lasner, Tonya Sanders (Matthew), Marc McLendon (Hannah), Brandon Burkett (Kelci), Katie Hallford, Morgan Hallford; eight great-grandchildren, Leanna Savannah, Mallori, Lilliana, Jacob, Wesley, Bella and Jack.
