A precious lady, Willie Jewel Savelle Taylor, affectionately called “Mama Jewel”, went home to be with her Lord, Friday afternoon, November 20, 2015, at her home in Newville at the age of 94.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 22, 2015, in the Union Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Guy Causey and Marvette Holland officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Josie Whiddon, 359 County Road 145, Headland, AL 36345. “Mama Jewel” loved her church, her church family, and was proud of the cemetery fund.
Mrs. Taylor was born and reared in the Hebron community of Henry County, daughter of the late V. C. Savelle and Mary Caroline Granberry Savelle. She lived near Newville all her adult lifetime where she was a member of the Union Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Hubert W. Taylor, a granddaughter, Mary Beth Taylor, a sister, Tolna DeShazo, and two brothers, Kermit Savelle and Junior Savelle.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Jackie Taylor Scott (Dwayne), Newville; a son, Hubert Rhett Taylor (Sandra), Abbeville; six grandchildren, Keith Taylor (Cathy), Holli Adams (John), Emily Nesiba (Patrick), Joshua Taylor (Heather), Jonathon Taylor (Christi), and Chris Whiddon (Megan); nine great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Jonathan Taylor, Anna and Abigail Adams, Ava Jewel Nesiba, Cassidy and Rhett Taylor, Finley and Adelyn Whiddon, and two more great-grandchildren on the way, Jennings Nesiba and Samuel Taylor; special nieces and a special nephew who visited “Mama Jewel” often, Margo Apida, Daphne Jones, Darlene Brown and Larry Savelle.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Sam Jones, Tommy Jones, Jay Jones, Justin McCoy, Terry Jones and Gene Arnold.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Gayle Carter, Ann Bond, Lela Golden, Anna Singletary, Pat Roberts, Sharon Alexander and the nurses and staff of Gentiva Hospice who lovingly cared for “Mama Jewel”.
