PHENIX CITY, AL. . .Willie Mae Smith Strickland, a resident of Phenix City, Alabama, died Monday night, October 2, 2017, in the Phenix City Health Care. She was 96.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, (C.D.T.), October 6, 2017, in the Union Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, near Abbeville, Alabama, with a grandson, Scott Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. Friday at the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary, Abbeville, Alabama.
Mrs. Strickland was a native of Haleburg, Alabama, daughter of the late Thomas Jake Smith and Maggie Bradley Smith. She lived in Columbus, Georgia most of her lifetime. Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ralph Strickland, a daughter, Margaret Brown, a son, Thomas Strickland, three sisters, Barbara Weeks, Susie Carter and Carol Seitzer, and a brother, Paul Smith
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Marie Moody (Stan), Phenix City; and Faye Cowart, Columbus; two sisters, Mildred Corum, Saline, Michigan; and Sara Pennell, Milton, FL; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Phenix City Health Care and Kindred Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Strickland during her illness.
