WILLIE  PEARL  CARPENTER



COLUMBIA…Willie Pearl Scott Carpenter, a resident of Columbia, died early Friday morning at her home, while being lovingly cared for by her family, after a brief illness.  She was 90.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 18, 2014, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with Reverend Tony Deese and Reverend Tommy White officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Columbia, P.O. Box 77, Columbia, AL 36319, or to Gentiva Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302.


            Mrs. Carpenter was born in Barbour County and moved to Henry County, near Columbia, as a child. She was the daughter of the late Willis Gordon Scott and Emma Benton Scott. Mrs. Carpenter was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia where she formerly taught Sunday School and prepared the Lord’s Supper for many years. For the past several years, she volunteered in Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Carpenter was an avid quilter and had a love for baking, and was known for her peanut cakes. She was retired as an Inspector from the Judy Bond Blouse Plant in Columbia. After her retirement, she worked at the Columbia Senior Center. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband, Davie Carpenter, two sisters, Lessie Scott Spann and Ruby Kate Scott Curington, and brothers, Cary Scott, Calvin Scott, Luke Scott, Ned Scott and Ted Scott.



            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Katrine Williams (Rodney), Dothan; and Paula Brooks (Gerald), Havana, FL; three sons, Gilliam Junior Carpenter (Freddie), Dothan; Carlton Carpenter, Columbia; and Terry Carpenter (Kathy), Ozark; a brother, Mark Scott, Dothan; Sisters-in-law, Helon Scott and Elwyn Scott, both of Dothan; Addie Mae Ham, Columbia; Flora Dell Chase, Bainbridge GA; and Linnie Carpenter, Dothan; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice as well as family and friends for the loving kindness shown to the Carpenters.
