Willie B. "W.B." Watford, 96, a resident of Madrid passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Extendicare Health and Rehab following an extended battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
The family and friends will gather for a pot luck lunch at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the home of his daughter, Barbara Dexter, 196 Broad Street, Madrid, AL. Following lunch we will have a Memorial Ride escorted by the Wiregrass Patriot Guard Riders to Madrid Cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Jerry Harden officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Madrid Senior's Center.
Mr. Watford was born on May 9, 1919 in Madrid, AL to the late Johnny and Alice Watford. He married Verna Lee and established their home in Madrid in 1965 where they operated a General Mercantile Store for several years until they started farming full time. He and Verna expanded their family in 1972 when they adopted their granddaughter Barbara Ann, who helped with the farm duties as well. He was a veteran of World War II and a lifelong member of Madrid United Methodist Church. W.B. was a hard working and proud man and supported his family very well. He welcomed his first granddaughter in August of 1989 and lost his soul mate in October of 1989. He later married one of Verna's fishing buddies, Myra Buntin.
Mr. Watford was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Alice Watford, his wife, Verna Watford, and his brother, John Wesley Watford.
Survivors include his only child, Barbara Ann Watford (Donald P.) Dexter of Madrid; granddaughter, Amanda Brook McCoy and her fiancé Brandon Morris) of Ozark; grandson, Daniel Dewayne Watford of Cottonwood; great-grandson, Sean Christopher McCoy of Ozark; his wife Myra Buntin Watford of Cottonwood; sisters, Louise Watson and Helen Miller both of Dothan.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of Extendicare Health and Rehab for the great care and comfort that they provided to W.B. during his time there.
