Willis A. Wise


 


Willis A. Wise, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday morning, January 22, 2012 at Flowers Hospital. He was 82.


 


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street with his son, Larry Wise and Pastor Benny Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Pastor Murray Kelley officiating and Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday prior to service time.


 


Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, “Children’s Ministries”, 3515 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36305.


 


Mr. Wise was born July 11, 1929 in Kinston, Alabama, the son of Luther and Gladys Bedsole Wise and lived the early years of his life there. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U. S. Army.


 


He later moved to Pensacola, Florida where he worked in sales and opened a furniture store which he operated until he moved to Dothan in 1963. He then established a furniture store which became (Wise Furniture) and operated until 1975. He also began Commercial Real Estate Development in 1970 (now Wise Plaza) and opened a fork lift company (Wise Equipment) which he operated until his retirement in 1978. Upon retirement, he then managed Commercial Real Estate and he and his wife began traveling around the country, something he truly enjoyed. Mr. Wise also loved fishing, hunting and playing golf. He was of the Baptist faith.


 


Mr. Wise is predeceased by his parents and a son, Jerry Wise.


 


Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Hazel Wise of Dothan; a son, Larry Wise (Joan) of Dothan; a daughter-in-law, Linda Wise of Dothan; four grandchildren, Chad Wise (Valerie), Shane Wise (Bethany), Casey Wise Osborn (Edward) and Jennifer Wise Stephens (Spencer); 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Chandler (Ruben) of Defuniak Springs, FL; several nieces and nephews.
