DOTHAN. . .Willoughby Edward “Buddy” Smith, formerly of Dothan, died early Wednesday morning, August 9, 2017, in the Ft. Gaines Health & Rehab. He was 78.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 11, 2017, in Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Dothan and Headland. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O Box 1170, Dothan, AL 36302.
Mr. Smith was a native of Donalsonville, Georgia, son of the late Robert Smith and Emmie Faison Smith. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1962. He formerly owned and operated Buddy’s Grocery & Package Store in Jakin, Georgia. Mr. Smith was a former resident of Jakin and Dothan before moving to the nursing facility. He was preceded in death by his wife, Flowers Woodham Smith, three sisters and two brothers.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Rhonda M. McSween (Bobby), Dothan; two sons, Jimmy Riley (Lynn) and Gene Riley (Joyce), all of Dothan; a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Smith, Donalsonville, GA; a brother, Gary Smith (Sharon), Thomasville, GA; five grandchildren, Kesha Adams Bayliss (Nathan Teach), Chasen Adams (Whitney), Mark Riley (Ami), Todd Riley, and Nick McSween (Amanda); and twelve great-grandchildren.
