ABBEVILLE. . .Winnie Messer Murray, a resident of Abbeville, died Wednesday afternoon, October 2, 2024, at her home. She was 89.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 5, 2024, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Don Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, near Newville. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oakey Grove Baptist Church, c/o Pam Ward, 1387 Singletary Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Murray was born and reared in Henry County, near Abbeville, daughter of the late Henry L. Messer and Cumie Bryant Messer. She was an active and faithful member of Oakey Grove Baptist Church where she served as church treasurer for twenty-seven years. Mrs. Murray formerly participated in the Home Demonstration Club and the Silver Sneakers. She was retired from Reliance Propane Gas Company as Office Manager. Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Murray, a sister, Vernelle Clark and a brother, Durell Messer.
Surviving relatives include a daughter Cathy Kline (Tim), Eufaula; a son, Kenny Murray (Jodie), Alabaster, AL; a sister, Lutrelle Ham, Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Adam Kline (Kelly) and Abby Ozbun (David), and a great-grandson on the way; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Adam Kline, Kenny Murray, Tim Kline, Alan Taylor, Darrell Watford and Matthew Buchanan.
