ABBEVILLE. . .Winona Blalock Eckley, a resident of Abbeville, died early Sunday morning, April 24, 2022, in a Dothan hospital. She was 76.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with a nephew, Robin Money officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church “Bread of Life Fund”, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Eckley was born and reared in Abbeville, daughter of the late Robert Simpson Blalock and Fannie Mae Stinson Blalock. She lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, Montgomery, Alabama and Columbia, South Carolina before returning to Abbeville in 2004. Mrs. Eckley was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Abbeville. She retired from Wachovia Bank in Abbeville as a Teller. She had also been employed by Great Southern Wood Preserving. In earlier years, she worked for Wachovia Bank in Columbia, SC. Mrs. Eckley was preceded in death by her husband, Russell James Eckley, a son, Russell James Eckley, II. sisters, Sue Money, Laverne Rollins, a brother, James William Blalock, nieces, Gail Rollins and Wanda Lisenby, and a nephew, James Rollins.
Surviving relatives include a sister, Elizabeth Matthews, Columbia, SC; nieces, Cindy VanHoy, Karen Turner, Carla Laird and Patricia Rich, nephews, George Rollins, Robin Money, Matthew Eckley, Benjamin Eckley, and Michael Matthews, brothers-in-law, Vernon Eckley and Randy Eckley, and mother-in-law, Willadean Eckley; special friend and caregiver, Lela Golden.
