Date of Service: A celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm on Monday, October 24, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1-2 pm. Xysta “Peggy” Flowers Lewis, of Wicksburg died peacefully at home on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the age of 102.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm on Monday, October 24, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1-2 pm. Peggy was born in Wicksburg, Alabama on February 11, 1920, married James L. Lewis in 1943, and moved to Birmingham in 1946. She worked several places in Birmingham, most notably the Pharmacology Department at UAB. In 1970 she returned to Wicksburg, obtained her Master’s Degree at Troy University, and taught at Daleville Elementary School. After retiring she was able to pursue her interest in painting and was a member of the Dothan Art League.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Lewis, by her parents, Dr. J. H. Flowers and Bertha Orr Flowers, by her sisters, Omega Nash, Malta Conners, Martha Ibys Gallo, and by her brother, Alpha (Bully) Flowers.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Lewis of Irondale; her son, Larry Lewis of Dothan; her two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
