Zach was born on September 19, 2000 in Birmingham, AL. He grew up most of his life in Wicksburg, AL where he attended Wicksburg High school and made many life time friends. Zachary played football, baseball and basketball with Wicksburg and you knew when he was on the field. Zachary’s ninth grade year, he started South Walton High school where he also played football with the South Walton Sea Hawks. For the last three weeks he had attended Northview High School.
I write this with a broken heart. The loss of a child is something we could have never prepared for. I am still not ready. What I do know is Zachary was greeted in Heaven by his Nana who he loved oh so much and is meeting his Poppy for the very first time.
Zachary lived life on his terms, he was a dreamer and a leader. Zachary had such a kind heart and was such a loyal friend, especially to his brother, Taylor. He never met a stranger. Always gave his all and he wanted to do it all. He had a way of entering a room and brightening it with his smile and charismatic ways or as I might say attitude. I have seen over the past few days just how strong Zachary really was and how many lives he touched in his short time with us. He made an impact on others and wanted to make everyone happy and proud. We can just say he was a dare devil and a clown. There is nothing in this world that Zachary couldn't, wouldn't or was scared to do. This kid was a go getter. He wouldn't quit until he got his way, he was going to win. He knew what he wanted and would do whatever it took to get it. When it came to sports he gave his all. Let someone get a hit on one of his teammates while out on the field or on the court, he was going to get pay back, I assure you of that. Zachary always had your back. He had many hopes and dreams and multiple plans for his future. And I know he would have made all his dreams come true.
I remember when Zachary was little there were athletes he looked up to and wanted to be like them. He even adapted some of the moves almost as if he had studied these kids. So for those reading this remember you never know who is watching, who is looking up to you or whose life you’re impacting. I pray that through this tragedy, you will think twice before you choose to drink and drive or text and drive that you let go of the small stuff that you forgive others, and take all the pictures you can. Our lives have forever been touched by Zachary and we will never be the same again, he made sure of that. We have learned a new meaning of “life is short.” Zachary will be missed by many especially his parents, his brother and best friend, Taylor and lifelong dog Yoda. If you have a special memory of Zachary, feel free to share.
He is proceeded in death by his grandparents, Carol Keahey and Jacky Wayne Spears.
