Ms. Zadie Margaret DeVane Smith, age 92, a resident of Dothan, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Southeast Health.


Private services for the family will be held Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Grandstaff officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory with Mr. Andrew Sharp officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Southside Baptist Church “Senior Adult Program”, 423 E. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL, 36301.


Ms. Smith was born April 8, 1928, in Cowarts, Alabama to Willie Paul and Ina Ruth DeVane. She was a graduate of Houston County High School and later worked at Sears for several years. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church for over 60 years.


Ms. Smith is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maxie Smith; a daughter, Starla Smith Perez; three brothers and seven sisters.


Survivors include three sons, Danny Smith (Mary Margaret) of Kennesaw, Georgia, Sammy D. Smith (Alisa) of Orlando, Florida, James Phillip Smith (Cindy) of Webb, Alabama; a daughter, Margaret Wyatt (Joe) of Webb, Alabama; a son-in-law, Aaron Perez of Webb, Alabama; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.


Serving as active pallbearers will be: Elliott Smith, Anthony Bonanni, Joe Wyatt, Andrew Sharp, Tony Riley and Aaron Perez.
