Zedy Myrle Coley, 95, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, in the loving home of Harold and Kathy Long. Born on September 22, 1929, in Clanton, Alabama. Myrle was the heart and soul of her family, known for her compassion and infectious laughter.
A devoted mother of two daughters and grandmother of five and Great Grandmother of nine. Myrles's greatest joy came from nurturing her family. Her famous Chicken and Dumplings, Pot Roast, and chocolate pie dinners were a frequent tradition that brought together not just family, but friends and neighbors as well. Myrle's homemade fig preserves were legendary and she delighted in passing down her culinary secrets to her son-in-law, daughters and grandchildren.
Beyond her role as a mother, Myrle was a retired seamstress (30 years) with Vanity Fair Lingerie company in Demopolis, Alabama. She routinely led the company in production and rarely missed a day’s work. She spent much of her free time gardening canning fruits and vegetables and her vibrant flower beds were the envy of the neighborhood.
Myrle was preceded by her parents Auklee Baker and Ola Mae Wright, her husband of 11 years, Joel Coley and husband of 46 years Jodie Lee Smith. Myrle is survived by her two daughters Carolyn Crenshaw (Bobby ) and Kathy Long (Harold) of Dothan, Alabama.
Myrle’s life journey has come to a peaceful close, but the impact of her 95 years will continue to resonate with all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and community.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM. Flowers will be accepted.
A private interment will take place at Demopolis Memorial Garden Cemetery.
