SKIPPERVILLE…Mr. Pete Gassett, a resident of Skipperville, died early Tuesday morning, July 7, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 9, 2026, in Morgan Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Sewell and Pastor Brian Presley officiating. Burial will follow in Beersheba Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Gassett, son of the late Woodrow Gassett and Hattie Ruth Stuckey Gassett, was a native and lifelong resident of Skipperville, a community he dearly loved and faithfully called home throughout his life. A hardworking man with a strong sense of responsibility, he devoted many years to his career at DynCorp International at Fort Rucker before retiring. In addition to his work there, he spent much of his life farming, finding joy and purpose in working the land and providing for his family. He believed in the value of an honest day’s work and lived his life with humility, integrity, and quiet strength.
Above all else, Mr. Gassett was a devoted family man whose greatest blessings in life were the people he loved. He treasured every opportunity to be with his family, whether sharing stories, offering a helping hand, or simply enjoying time together. His love was most evident in the special care and devotion he showed to his beloved wife, “Mrs. Martha.” He faithfully looked after her with a servant’s heart, demonstrating the kind of steadfast love, patience, and commitment that reflected his Christian faith and the vows he held sacred. Their life together was a testimony to enduring love and God’s grace.
A man of deep faith, Mr. Gassett was a faithful member of Morgan Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and sought to live a life that honored Him through kindness, generosity, and service to others. He believed in the promises of God and found comfort and strength in his faith through all of life’s joys and challenges. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, his caring nature, and the example he set as a husband, father, friend, and neighbor.
While his presence will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed into his heavenly home, where he is now at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior. His legacy of faith, hard work, devotion to family, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Carol Gassett; his sister, Nellie Ruth Gassett; and his brother, Billy Ray Gassett; sister-in-law, Mary Bludsworth and her husband, Buddy; brothers-in-law, Wayne Monk, Bobby Blocker, and Charles Mitchell.
Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-seven years, Martha Raye Monk Gassett; his children, Dianne Tharpe (John) and Michael Gassett (Julia), all of Skipperville; two sisters, Sara Blocker, Fairhope and Ann Mitchell, Graceville; sister-in-law, Christina Monk, Weston, Colorado; brother-in-law, Mel Monk (Sherry), Brundidge; grandson, Jonathan Tharpe (Danika), Skipperville; great-granddaughter, JeorgieAnne Carol Tharpe; several special nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Eddie Monk, Allen Dorrill, Mel Monk, James Lee, T.J. Sewell, JoJo McCraney, Jackson Marsh, and Tony Hancock.
