Otis Arlen Chapman, Sr., known by friends and family as Arlen, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday, September 6, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on August 4, 1933, in Virginia, Arlen’s journey through life was marked by a steadfast devotion to his family, an illustrious career, and commitment to his faith.
Preceded in death by his parents, Otis Columbus Chapman and Vivian Elon Sirmons Chapman; his brothers, Danny Chapman, David Chapman, and Victor Chapman; and his daughter, Valerie Chapman, Arlen’s memory will be cherished by his beloved wife of 53 years, Tinh Chapman; children, Mechau Mowbray (Wayne), Otis Chapman, and Vickie Arlene Gatliff (Wayne); grandchildren, Miles Vail (April), Skye Mowbray, Abigail Chapman, Kara Chapman, Neily Chapman, Tristan Yount and Gharet Yount; and great-granddaughter, Madison Pickett.
Throughout his life, Arlen embodied the virtues of intelligence and an interesting character. At an early age, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. Arlen retired with rank of Staff Sergeant after twenty years in the military, spoke to his valor and sense of duty. In his civilian life, Arlen found passion and purpose alongside his wife in operating their cherished Cake Box Bakery in both Dothan and Daleville. His zest for life was evident to all who knew him, whether he was racing motorcycles, scoring strikes at the local bowling alley, where he so rightly earned his place in the Patricia Lane Hall of Fame.
Funeral services to honor the life of Otis Arlen Chapman, Sr., will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Monk Tai officiating. Friends and families are invited to reminisce and celebrate Arlen’s life starting at 10:00 A.M., prior to the commencement of the funeral service.
In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to Tu Quang Temple 2868 E Malvern Hwy, Dothan, AL 36305, in honor of Arlen.
