HEADLAND – Pastor Donald Phillip Moore, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and man of unwavering faith, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 30, 2025, in a Dothan hospital. He was 86.

Born in Hale County near Akron, Alabama, and raised in Tuscaloosa, Don was the son of the late Luther Ward Moore and Clara Mae Hartley Moore. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1956 and began his working life as a carpenter at Partlow State School. He later answered the call to ministry, earning a degree from the Baptist University of Florida in Graceville and faithfully serving as a Baptist minister for over five decades.

Pastor Moore served congregations throughout Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, including Collins Chapel Baptist Church (Malone, FL), Arbor Springs Baptist Church (Reform, AL), Mt. Enon Baptist Church (Dothan, AL), Fredonia Baptist Church (Thomasville, GA), Mayo Baptist Church (Mayo, FL), Trinity Baptist Church (Headland, AL), Post Oak Baptist Church (Ozark, AL), and Peniel Baptist Church (Skipperville, AL). At the time of his passing, he was serving as interim pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Headland and was a member of Peniel Baptist Church.

Outside of the pulpit, Pastor Moore was a gifted outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter, especially deer hunting and making trips out west to hunt elk. He loved fishing just as much—often taking his family along and regularly inviting church members to join him. His deep connection to the land also showed in his enormous annual vegetable garden, which produced hundreds of pounds each year. True to his generous spirit, he gave away the majority of his harvest to family, friends, church members, and those in need.

Pastor Moore was also a passionate Alabama football fan and he watched more Atlanta Braves baseball than just about anyone. His love of Jesus, nature, and family was ever-present and deeply woven into his daily life.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Hannah Walker, and his brother, David Moore.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Nina Jones Moore; three daughters, Donna Walker (Greg) of Dothan, Diane Sollie (Jeff) of Columbia, and Deborah Moore of Headland; a brother, Dan Moore (Gerri) of Northport, AL; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Moore of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Dallas Sollie, Kasey Oakley (Trey), Cody Walker (Aleigh), and Spencer Walker (Rachel); great-grandchildren, Carson Sollie, Griffin Oakley, Groves Oakley, Selah Oakley, and Charlotte Walker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 4, 2025, in the Trinity Baptist Church, Headland, AL. with Pastor Jim Hill officiating.. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Monday in the church sanctuary. Committal services will follow in the sanctuary of the Peniel Baptist Church, Skipperville, AL. with Pastor Bill Hart officiating. Burial will follow in the Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery.
