
The world has lost a remarkable man, Robert “Bob” Jeffrey Theune, who departed this life on June 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 2, 1960, in Akron, Ohio, Bob lived a life filled with passion, love, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Bob’s educational journey was marked by excellence and determination. He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in Ohio before attending Clarion College in Pennsylvania where he was an avid college athlete and All-American swimmer. He earned his undergraduate degree in Marketing from Kent State University in Ohio and furthered his education with a Master’s in Business Administration from Troy State in Alabama. His educational achievements provided him with the foundation for a successful career as a management executive in the manufacturing industry.
Bob’s commitment to his community was unparalleled. He dedicated countless hours serving on the boards of various organizations, including the Wiregrass Museum of Art, Houston County Library, Southeast Health, and the Board of Trustees and Staff Parish Committee at First United Methodist Church in Dothan, where he was a devout member. His passion for service reflected his fierce loyalty and his desire to uplift those around him.
An avid triathlete and Iron Man finisher, Bob completed the incredible feat of riding his bike across America in just 27 days. His zest for life and adventure was infectious, inspiring those around him to chase their dreams and push their limits. Whether he was cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide or encouraging a friend at the starting line of a race, Bob’s enthusiasm and passion for life shone through every facet of his being.
Remembered as a fiercely loyal and always encouraging husband, father, and friend, Bob’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His devotion to family and community exemplified his character; he was a man who believed in the power of love and connection.
Bob was the beloved son of Oliver Eugene and Evelyn Imogene (Beltz) Theune. He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Theune, which left a profound impact on him throughout his life. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Dawn Theune, who stood by his side through thick and thin; and his devoted children, Tyler Theune (Jordan) of Pensacola, FL, Connor Theune of Birmingham, and Brad Dunning, Mary Hannah Owens (Damon), and David Dunning, all of Dothan and Charleston, SC; Bob’s mother, Evelyn Theune, of Dothan; He was a proud grandfather to Sydney Theune, Olivia Theune, Chapman Dunning, Florie Dunning, Betsy Dunning, Lachlan Owens, Adem Owens, and Calum Owens. Bob also leaves behind his cherished sister, Sue DeJulius (Mick) of Dothan, and several nieces and nephews, who all held a special place in his heart.
A Memorial Service to honor the life of Bob will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. David R. Saliba and Bishop R. Lawson Bryan officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Dothan Country Club following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the In Christ’s Name Fund at First United Methodist Church, 1380 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
