Robert L. Schamp, 72, of Columbus, GA, formerly Dothan, AL completed his earthly journey and entered into his Heavenly home on June 8, 2026, with his family around him.
Bob was born August 19, 1953 in Dothan, AL to the late John L. Schamp and Ann Kirkland Schamp.
Bob worked for Daniel Construction from 1974-1978 building Plant Farley.
He then hired on with Southern Company (formerly Farley Nuclear plant) and was a faithful employee from 1978 until his retirement in 2012 as a Senior Plant Reactor Operator. He made many lifelong friends and special memories in that time.
Bob was an avid fisherman and a die hard Alabama football fan, but most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was always our number one fan.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents John and Ann Schamp and his brother Jerre Schamp.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Wanda Roper Schamp; daughters Kimberly Williams (Eric) and Stephanie Schamp; Grandchildren, Katelyn Tomlinson, Robert Williams (Dailey), Tori Dismukes (Brad), Sarah Williams, Andrew Williams, four great grandchildren, and a host of cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Defeat MSA Alliance at defeatmsa.org.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Columbia First Baptist Church with Revered Van Cooley officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2:30 P.M. Saturday, June 20, 2026, prior to the service.
The family would request that everyone wear their favorite Alabama Crimson Tide gear in his honor.
