Robert E. Landis fell asleep in death on July 1, 2026, at his home in Dothan, Alabama. He was 83 years old. “Bob” was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, on January 9,1943, to Mr. Robert Bonshaw Landis and Mrs.Leola Terrell Landis. He was the youngest of three children and his bonds with his sisters “Margaret” and “Alex” were lifelong.
His early life experiences were varied, involving many moves, time spent on relatives’ farms in the Shenandoah Valley, and travels abroad with his family. Bob enjoyed sharing stories of his life in Switzerland, Germany, France, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. These experiences shaped his view of the world, and he tried to treat people of all kinds with respect and dignity.
Bob married the love of his life, Martine LeGlaunec, in Hong Kong in 1967 and eventually settled in Hartsdale, New York, with his four children— Katherine, Michael, Rachel, and Chantal. There he attended the Greenburgh Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, made many dear friends, and enjoyed sharing the Bible’s comfort and hope with others. The family later moved to Tampa, Florida, and Bob lived there for 35 years until he joined Katherine’s family in Dothan, Alabama, in June, 2026.
For 50 years, Bob worked hard in the industrial hydraulics field where he enjoyed getting deals and solving problems. He loved his friends in the Tampa West Congregation and was quick with a smile, a sincere greeting, and a story. Often affected by anxiety, when asked “How are you?”, he would answer, “Better than I have a right to be!” His sense of humor, love of history, travel, languages, and strong work ethic were passed on to his children. His hope was to be reunited with his family in Paradise on earth when Jesus calls him “to a resurrection of life” (John 5:28,29).
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Leola Landis and his sisters, Ann Margaret Landis and Barbara Alexandra Brunel. Bob is survived by his children, Katherine Owens (Timothy), Michael G. Landis, Rachel Fuss (Frederic) and Chantal Sheehan (Michael) and grandchildren Jackson Owens (Sarah), Alexandre Landis, Juliette-Athena Landis, Anna Sophia Owens, nephews and nieces.
