
Roy Bruce “Moose” Spears, Jr., of Dothan, AL, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side. He was 79 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church of Dothan with Rev. Lynn Smilie Nesbitt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery in Samson, AL, with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL, directing.
Moose was born on August 22, 1946, to the late Roy Bruce Spears, Sr. and Nellie Crews Spears. He was an avid golfer and was always happiest when he was on the golf course. Moose also enjoyed traveling with close family and friends and attending Alabama football games.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Finch Spears; and one brother, John David Spears.
He is survived by one son, Barry Spears (Sandie) of Alabaster, AL; one daughter, Ashley Cannon (Chris) of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren, Grayson Spears and Elizabeth Spears of Alabaster, AL; one brother, Eddie Spears (Rhonda) of Geneva, AL; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
