Shirley Faye Money Norton, age 79, of Ashford, Alabama, passed away on October 8, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of precious memories and a family who cherished her.
Born July 10, 1947, in Houston County, Shirley was the daughter of Ed Money and Lucy Walker Money and a proud graduate of Columbia High School.
Above all else, Shirley loved her family with all her heart. She especially treasured the time spent with her brothers, sisters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Some of Shirley’s greatest joys came from time spent with her family, reminiscing about days gone by, sharing funny stories, and filling the room with music, singing and laughter as they created cherished memories together.
Shirley was full of personality, with a wonderful sense of humor and a charm that was impossible to forget. She was funny, outspoken, and never afraid to speak her mind. She loved to laugh, dance, and light up a room with her unforgettable spirit.
Coming from a very musically talented family, Shirley had a beautiful singing voice and a special love for gospel and country music. She shared her talent with listeners on the local gospel radio station and enjoyed being on stage with a microphone in her hand leading congregations during praise and worship at Church. She loved singing karaoke, doing crossword puzzles, and cheering on her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide. She also liked playing games where she delighted in trying her luck with thrill and excitement. When relaxing at home, Shirley loved watching the Game Show Network and her favorite television shows, including Judge Judy, Friends, The Golden Girls,and Mama’s Family.
Shirley was a wonderful cook, and some of her family’s sweetest memories will always be tied to the meals she lovingly prepared and the dinner tables they shared. Her fried chicken, homemade chicken and dumplings, and chocolate cake were family favorites. Her cooking was just one of the many ways she brought her family together and made ordinary moments special.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Homer Money, Jerry Money, Kenneth Money, and Freddie Money.
Among those who will forever cherish her memory is her husband of 59 years, Roy Norton; her daughters, Sherri Alletag and Shelia Norton; her son Steven Norton; her grandchildren,
Brittney Hairston (Andrew), Morgan Collins (Christian), Dylan Norton (Katie), Channing Norton, and Maddie Norton; her great-grandchildren, Collins Hairston, Scarlett Hairston, Blakely Collins, Kayden Norton, Naomi Norton, and Jonah Norton, with Greyson Collins expected soon; her sisters Geraldine Rogers, Pam Sullivan; and a host of nieces
.
Shirley leaves behind a lifetime of treasured memories, moments of laughter, and a love for her family that will never be forgotten. Her vibrant spirit, wonderful sense of humor, and one-of-a-kind personality will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her. Though her absence will be deeply felt, her legacy will live on through the stories shared, the traditions passed down, and the generations of family who will carry her love in their hearts for years to come.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, no formal service will be held and a private burial will take place on Tuesday October 13, 2026 at 1:00 pm.
