64 Years of Growing Golf
I'm sure that when Dr. Thornton's Father, Press Thornton decided to host a golf tournament for young boys, he couldn't imagine that 64 years later, it would become one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country. With 442 players from all over the world, as far away as Netherlands, Brazil and Bermuda, this year's tournament proved to be very successful. In spite of a 3 1/2 hour rain delay on Sunday, then having to postpone a portion of the 2nd round on Friday....the trophy presentation ended in grand style on the 18th green surrounded by families, friends, and golf fans. To all of you who participated in someway, we would like to thank you for giving up your private club for a week, for those who served in giving your time and energy to volunteer, to the staff and crew who put in lots of long hours and to the hotels, restaurants and the City of Dothan for welcoming our guests into our home....we THANK YOU for allowing us the opportunity to share the Future Masters with so many! Future Masters is not, not has it ever been, only about golf, it is about the spirit of competition, friendships made, sportsmanship on the course, and the challenge of persevering.

We have just got back to reality after our first experience of the Future Masters tournament at Dothan. I wouldn't normally follow up after a tournament as we attend so many but I feel compelled to do so on this occasion. We had an absolutely splendid and most memorable time at your tournament and without doubt it is the best run and most enjoyable tournament we have been to, and we have been to a lot! ! What a fabulous experience for the boys and it has a real "professional tournament feel". Your marshals and volunteers were without exception, welcoming, friendly and informed. They are a credit to your club and the town. Of course our experience was that bit more memorable with my son's hole-in-one and him holding the lead for a while also, but irrespective of that the quality of course, quality of field and tournament in general was simply fantastic. Joseph commented as we drove home "that is the best one we have played in!'--- his words, not mine ! Anyways I just felt I wanted to report back how much we enjoyed it with you guys and we sincerely hope to be invited next year for another great time. Please feel free to pass on my email to Dr. Thornton and anyone whom you feel may appreciate knowing our feelings Thanks again Mark N. Pagdin

Did you know~~~
- When the storms hit Friday afternoon, play was postponed due to rain and the golf course was littered with tree limbs, debris and a tree had fallen on #9. Saturday morning at 6:30am, the golfers returned to the DCC in pristine condition, thanks to Tim Etheridge and his crew.
- The number of hits on the Future Masters' website during the week of the tournament: 174,723
- Ten years ago, Harris English won the 13-14 age group and just a month ago, won his first PGA tournament at the St. Jude's Classic. Harris was gracious enough to call in and answer questions of our local media on Monday.
