Headland Beats Houston County 13-2

Headland High School's softball team ran its record to 3-0 on the season with a 13-2 victory over the Houston County Lions in Headland Friday afternoon. Headland used three pitchers, Hannah Howell, Jordan Watson, and Katie-Beth Drew in the win. Howell started the game off with two impressive shutout innings, Watson (1-0) went two to get the win, and Drew slammed the door in the 5th inning to get her first save of the season.Offensively, Caroline Singleton led the way going 2 for 2 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 5 runs batted in. Claire Bradshaw went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, Katie Beth Drew and Brianna Skipper drove in 2 runs apiece and Jaycie Walker had a hit, a walk, 2 runs and 2 stolen ba ses. Desiree Taylor had a single, 2 steals, and scored a run. Senior catcher Skipper threw out the only runner who attempted to run on her and picked off a runner from third ba se to end an inning. Headland will play Saturday at 10:15 a.m. vs. Abbeville at Wicksburg High School's tournament.
