On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Headland Lady Rams softball teams opened their season with a double-header against Pike County. In the J.V. game, Pike County won a 10-4 decision behind some solid pitching and fundamentally sound defense. The J.V. Lady Rams were led on the mound by Pam Hatfield, who pitched very well and only surrendered 3 earned runs. Offensively, the Rams were led by Courtney Cureton.In the Varsity contest, the Lady Rams won 15-0 behind 9th grader Hannah Howell who pitched a perfect game, striking out 7 of 12 batters. The offensive onslaught was led by seniors Katie Beth Drew, who was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored and Brianna Skipper, who was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Skipper recently signed with St. Petersburg (FL) College. 8th grader Jaycie Walker, was 2 for 2 with 2 stolen ba ses & 3 runs scored, & seniors Claire Bradshaw, who was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's & Jordan Watson (headed to Darton College), who was 1 for 2 with 3 runs also led the attack.
