The Zion Chapel Rebel Belles started their season off with 16 girls that were willing to play recreation ball for their school. That does not sound like a big number but coming from a small school and community that was a lot of girls. After practicing for around three weeks and our regular season started we were down to 14 and the season ball games began. Half way through the regular season we had one more to decide not to play so that left us with 13 to finish our regular season. These 13 girls set a goal to have a winning season and let me tell you they did! We had 13 regular season games scheduled for the year and the Rebel Belles did not loose a game and out scored their opponents of a total of ZC 164 points – their opponents 26 points. After regular season it was time for the coaches to choose for all-stars for the upcoming tournaments. This was not an easy decision since you could only take 12 girls and we had 13 on the team. After a few days of looking at the stats and deciding on the 12 that would play, we told the girls who made the ALL-STARS TEAM. The one young lady that did not make the team understood and her and her family have been supporting her teammates all the way.
The All-Star season started with a warm up tournament in Troy Al. and the Rebels breezed through it with no problem. After that it was time to get down to business starting with the Sub District tournament that was hosted by Zion Chapel. The Rebel Belles went through the sub-district untouched and advanced to the District, which was held in Troy Al. During District the Rebel Belles made it to the championship game with out a lose and would have to be beat twice by Ashford not to win the tournament. During the first game Ashford came to play ball and beat the Rebels making us having to go to the (if necessary game). Well after it was all said and done Ashford came out on top beating the Rebels by 1 point making them district champs and the Rebels would have to go to state as the runner-up. These were the only 2 games the Rebels had lost all year. Going into the State Tournament that was held at Smiths Station, the Rebels were fired up and ready to play ball. We started our tournament winning the first game but loosing our second game to Underwood, which put us in the loosing bracket the rest of the tournament. The Rebels fought back and found themselves in the championship game to play Underwood again having to beat them twice to win state. The first game we won 11-1 putting us in the if necessary game, after the second game the Rebels came to play ball beating Underwood 10-3 making the ZION CHAPEL REBEL BELLES the STATE CHAMPS! Zion Chapel will be representing the state of Alabama in the World Series at Alexandria LA. On August 2, 2013 with pride!
From a coaches prospective, that has been coaching Rec. ball and travel ball for 10+ years this is by far the most talented and loving girls for the game of softball I have ever been a part of. Put that with an outstanding group of parents and an overwhelming support of the small community, we have put together an unstoppable group of 12 girls that love the sport. Win or loose the Rebel Belles are going to the World Series to represent the state of Alabama, but better yet are going from a small community called Jack, AL. We have a saying before every game (Take it pitch by pitch, play by play, game by game but most importantly HAVE FUN!). Words can’t describe how proud I am of these 12 young ladies and that I am a part of the Zion Chapel Rebel Family!
