Taras Hanuszczyk

March 13, 1953 – September 19, 2025

Taras Hanuszczyk, age 72, of Dothan, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord Jesus on September 19, 2025.

Taras was born in Ludlow, Massachusetts, on March 13, 1953, to Jan and Vera Hanuszczyk (Romanowska). He graduated from high school with the Class of 1971, and immediately after, he joined the United States Air Force in 1972. He first served as a Production Control Specialist for 4 years and 3 months before being promoted to Carpentry Specialist, serving another 10 months. He was honorably discharged in 1984 as a Staff Sergeant.

Following his military service, Taras pursued a career as a Civil Servant in Control and Code Inspections for many years. He later worked as a Security Guard Officer in Daytona Beach, Florida, and eventually retired from Global Security in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2023. In his role, he was responsible for staff training and administration over a large condo development in downtown Las Vegas.

On October 17, 2021, Taras married Mary Lynn Howell. After retirement, they moved to Dothan, Alabama, to be closer to Mary’s granddaughter Alexis and great-grandson Hendrix, who reside in Orlando, Florida.

Taras loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. In his younger years, he loved skiing with his brother Marcus and also skating. Together they would ride for miles on their bikes or go fishing. He especially loved the water—ponds, creeks, lakes, and the ocean.

Taras was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter Hanuszczyk, John Hanuszczyk
nephew Jason  Varaos; niece Elizabeth  Hanuszczyk

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lynn Lowell Hanuszczyk; his sister, Irene Varao,  his brothers Marcus  Hanuszczyk (Jane), Andre Roman (Bonnie); nieces and nephews Jeremy Varao (Brittany), Taylor Roman, Katy Hanuszczyk  along with many extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Dothan with Pastor David Saliba and Pastor Elizabeth Hinton officiating. The date will be announced once finalized.
