Walton County Sheriff’s Deputy Will May was killed in a shooting after fighting for his life in the hospital, according to officials.
Deputy May was involved in a shooting at a Dollar General in Mossy Head Wednesday, volunteering on an overtime shift.
He was speaking with a suspect from an incident when the suspect drew a gun and fired, one bullet managing its way around his bulletproof vest.
The suspect was killed at the scene after Deputy May drew his gun and fired.
Walton County’s Sheriff said medical teams worked on Deputy May but he succumbed to his wounds.
Sheriff Mike Atkinson says he will be working to provide support for Deputy May’s family during this difficult time.
