Retired Senior Chief Petty Officer Wayne Wood Weeks of Geneva, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the age of 91, surrounded by the care of hospice and family members Dianne and Marlon Norwood and Sam and Sarah Ward.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Reese Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Jimmy Eddins officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, Alabama, directing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wayne’s memory to either of the following organizations: Children’s of Alabama Foundation 1600 7th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233 or Tunnel to Towers Foundation 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306

Wayne was born on August 8, 1935, to the late Taft and Eva Wood Weeks. He was the oldest of five children, with four younger siblings: Martha Sue, Will Ed, Farren Murdick, and Phillip Larry. His mother, Eva, instilled in her children the importance of hard work from an early age.

When Wayne was old enough, he joined the United States Navy, eager to see the world. He often joked that he had traded the cotton field for the war field, but at least with the Navy, he got paid. During his distinguished military career, Wayne served two tours in Vietnam and visited numerous ports while serving aboard different ships.

Wayne married his first wife, Barbara Ann McDougald, and together they lived at several military bases before eventually retiring to Alabama. A devoted University of Alabama fan, Wayne proudly supported the Crimson Tide. His favorite place at home was his man cave, filled with Alabama memorabilia, where he enjoyed watching every Alabama game.

Throughout the years, Wayne held several jobs, with his final position at Fort Rucker. When his beloved wife, Barb, developed cancer, Wayne retired once again so he could devote his time to caring for her. After two years of battling the disease, Barb passed away, leaving Wayne to face life without his longtime companion.

In time, Wayne found love again with Helen Ward. The two married and enjoyed many wonderful years together, traveling, spending time with family, and helping organize bus tours for senior citizens. Sadly, Helen passed away unexpectedly, and Wayne once again faced the loss of his beloved wife.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Taft and Eva Wood Weeks; his first wife, Barbara Ann “Barb” McDougald; members of Barb’s family, Jr., Betty, Jeanette, Don Jerry, Ferrell, and June; his second wife, Helen Ward; and her brother, Billy Ward; Wayne’s brothers, Will Ed,  Farren, and Phillip (Mary)

Wayne leaves behind his sister, Martha Sue (Randel); sister-in-law, Diane Weeks; in-laws, Marlon and Dianne Norwood, Sammy and Sarah Ward, and Mary Ward; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a special place in the hearts of all who share his love for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Roll Tide, Wayne. You will be missed.
