William Leroy Singer, Sr., age 84, passed away on July 12, 2026, in Enterprise, Alabama. He was born on December 16, 1941, in Georgiana, Alabama, and lived a life marked by steady devotion, quiet strength, and faithful service to his family, his country, and his community.
He was a man who understood the value of hard work from an early age. Growing up in Alabama, he spent part of his youth farming and also worked a paper route for the Dothan Eagle, learning responsibility and perseverance while still a young man. Those early experiences helped shape the dependable and disciplined character that would define the rest of his life. He carried those lessons with him into adulthood and into every role he fulfilled.
William proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 until 1985. Drafted while still in high school, he answered the call to serve with honor and commitment. His military career reflected his sense of duty and his willingness to put others before himself. Over the course of more than two decades in uniform, he demonstrated loyalty, courage, and steadfast dedication to his country. His service was a source of deep pride, and those who knew him understood that his quiet manner was matched by a strong and dependable spirit.
Following his military career, he worked at Easterling Correctional Facility in Clio, where he continued to serve with the same sense of responsibility that had guided him throughout his life. He was known as someone who could be counted on, a man who did his work faithfully and without complaint. He was not one to seek attention, but his presence was felt in the lives of those around him through his consistency, integrity, and calm example.
William attended First Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark, where his faith remained an important part of his life. He valued the fellowship of church and the comfort that came from worship and community. His life reflected the kind of quiet faith that is often expressed more through action than words. He was a man who believed in doing what was right, caring for others, and living with humility.
He enjoyed nature and took great pride in caring for his yard. He found peace in the simple beauty of the outdoors and in the satisfaction of maintaining a place that reflected his care and attention. He also enjoyed fishing and chess, pastimes that suited his thoughtful and patient nature. William was quiet but wise, and those who spent time with him often came to appreciate his measured words and steady outlook. He was a provider in every sense of the word, and his family knew they could depend on him.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Singer; his son, William Leroy Singer, Jr.; his daughter, Monica Singer; his granddaughter, Arabian McLeod; one brother; six sisters; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many others whose lives were touched by his kindness, example, and unwavering presence. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in providing for them and standing beside them through life’s many seasons.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Amos Singer and Janie Todd; his sisters, Ruby Cook, Louvenia Amos, and Elnease Hasley; as well as his brother, Jefferson Singer.
William Leroy Singer, Sr. will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, loyal brother, and faithful friend. He lived a life of service, perseverance, and quiet dignity. Though he was reserved in manner, his impact was lasting, and his legacy will continue through the family he loved and the many lives he influenced. His memory will be cherished with gratitude and affection by all who knew him.
A celebration of William’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00am-11:0aam am on Saturday at the funeral home.
