The easiest option to help hungry people in your community is coming up this weekend with the Wiregrass Food Bank’s “Stamp Out Hunger” effort.

It’s so simple — put non-perishable food by your mailbox on Saturday before mail delivery, and mail carriers will take the food to a hunger-fighting agency within your community.

“This is the easiest way to participate in a food drive because all you have to do is leave your donation at the mailbox,” said Julie Gonzalez, the Food Bank assistant director. “We’re hoping everyone participates.”

If you have a lot of food to donate, swing by the Food Bank on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. to donate your food in-person.

Over 43,000 people in the Wiregrass go to bed every night now knowing if they’ll be able to eat the next day — that’s 1 in 6 people of our neighbors and friends, Gonzalez said.

But the statistic has an upside: it means there’s 5 in 6 people who can help, and you can be one of them.
