ASHFORD: PART TWO … TERROR IN ASHFORD
Last evening RSN did an article TERROR IN ASHFORD at the basketball game. Today we have several different versions of what took place. This was during a basketball game between Ashford and Barbour County.
1. RSN wrote last night that a Barbour County parent struck a Barbour County student in the face. Some reported to be there wrote in text messages “there was a minor altercation between an adult form Ashford and a student from Barbour County, and no one was struck”. According to information the incident occurred in the bathroom and varying stories about what happened. But the information a Barbour County parent struck a Barbour County student is being disputed by those who reached out to me. From people who were reported on the scene different stories.
2. One wrote “an Ashford Police Officer working the game in uniform did pull a weapon on a Barbour County resident. The officer believed the man was reaching for a weapon while adjusting his clothing. The resident from Barbour County was searched and no firearm was found. This led to the gym clearing out.” The person who text said that is what happened and they were sitting right there.
While someone video from their phone, the school gym has video. The following are some information RSN has learned:
A: The incident involving a parent and student was in the bathroom. No video and have no concrete facts of what happened. According to text messages the versions vary. Something happened between two people, exactly who or what we do not know.
B: The law enforcement officers then got information there was a man with a firearm. NOT ASHFORD POLICE but a Houston County Sheriff Deputy, backed up by other officers, had the referees stop the game and the Houston County Sheriff Deputy called the man from the stands to the gymnasium floor. The man was adjusting his clothing or phone and the Houston County Sheriff Deputy did draw his firearm, but according to what I am told by those who have seen the school video the Houston County Sheriff Deputy DID NOT point the weapon at anyone. He held the firearm in his hand, by his side, pointing downwards. And the reason the weapon was drawn was because of information the man had a firearm and he was adjusting his clothing. Not knowing the Houston County Deputy did draw his weapon but never pointed it at anyone.
C: Two black officers then searched the man and he did not have a weapon. The reason I point out :two black officers” because some who have posted or text stated the Deputy pointed it at a black man. Color had nothing to do with the actions of the Deputy. The reports, as I am told, of him having a firearm were that after the altercation he went to his vehicle and got a firearm.
When a law enforcement officer obtains information, and you have to agree, the information was (A) an altercation and (B) the person went to his vehicle and obtained a firearm, swift action has to be taken. Were there possibly other measures that could have been taken, Perhaps. But the law enforcement officers took swift action based on the information people told them.
Just this week there were four police officers shot and killed while in a restaurant eating. There are school shootings, incident people ambushed. And it could be someone from Ashford responsible, from Barbour County, or anyone and the law enforcement officers have to act. And if they did not act swiftly and something happen then the social media posts would be the officers were told and should have …. But the social media posts are the officers should not have handled it this way because no firearm was found.
THIS HAS NOTHING TO CAST STONES ON BARBOUR COUNTY OR ASHFORD. A situation happened because no one gets along, and so much violence action across the country has taken place. And a lot of them at schools. Law Enforcement officers have to take swift action.
Hopefully I have stated the correct version. Multiple calls and text messages today and I have made some phone calls attempting to get the true and correct facts.
And let me say this about the Houston County Sheriff Deputy, he is very professional, calm demeanor, honest and does what he thinks is best to save lives.
