3:20 PM Two Dothan Residents Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Crash

DOTHAN:

A motorcycle crash in Washington County, Florida, left two Dothan residents seriously injured Wednesday afternoon.

The collision happened at the intersection of Clayton Road and State Road 277, just north of Vernon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 21-year-old woman from Chipley was attempting to turn left onto State Road 277 when her SUV collided head-on with an oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcycle was being driven by a 36-year-old Dothan woman with a 16-year-old Dothan girl riding as a passenger. The impact caused the motorcycle to overturn, throwing both riders from the bike before it came to rest on the grassy shoulder.

Both the driver and the teen passenger suffered serious injuries.
The SUV driver was not injured.

2:09 PM Alabama Edges Closer to Medical Cannabis Rollout as Dispensary Licenses Are Issued

2:09 PM Alabama Edges Closer to Medical Cannabis Rollout as Dispensary Licenses Are Issued

The Latest on Alabama’s Medical Marijuana Laws and Program

After more than two years of delays, Alabama’s medical cannabis program is finally moving forward. On Thursday, the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission awarded dispensary licenses to four companies, a major step toward getting products into the hands of patients.

AMCC Chairman Rex Vaughn called the move a “milestone,” breaking a long stalemate caused by legal challenges over the limited number of licenses.

Advocates like Amanda Taylor of Cullman, who moved out of state to access medical cannabis before returning to push for change, say the step brings long-awaited hope.

“We are on the cusp of having a working program,” Taylor said. “It shouldn’t have taken this long, but I’m thankful to see progress.”

Following recommendations from an administrative law judge, the commission issued licenses to:

  • GP6 Wellness LLC

  • RJK Holdings LLC

  • CCS of Alabama LLC

  • Yellowhammer Medical Dispensaries LLC (license stayed until Jan. 26)

Each company may operate up to three dispensaries. After paying a $40,000 fee, licenses are set to be finalized on Jan. 8, unless blocked by further court action.

CCS Alabama says it’s already preparing to open its first Montgomery location. “For the patients, it’s been a long time coming,” co-owner Vince Schilleci said.

The issuance of dispensary licenses also triggers the next step: doctors cannot be certified to recommend medical cannabis until at least one dispensary becomes active.

While this clears a major hurdle, licenses for integrated companies—those allowed to grow, process, and dispense—remain tied up in ongoing disputes.

Still, industry leaders say Thursday’s decision marks a turning point for Alabama patients who have waited years for access.

10:30 PM. Court Action Filed Against Dothan Commissioners On Property Rezoning

10:30 PM. Court Action Filed Against Dothan Commissioners On Property Rezoning

DOTHAN – HOUSTON COUNTY:      This morning Dothan Attorney Stephen Etheredge filed in Houston County Circuit Court a complaint against the Dothan Mayor and City Commissioners in reference to reasoning property on Rowland Road.

The complaint filed was on behalf of Plaintiff’s Peppi Cooper, Charles Jay McCallister and Charles Jeffrey McCallister.

This complaint stems from the recent reasoning of 50 acres which was recently removed from the Highway 84 East Master Plan. Originally adopted by the Dothan Planning Commission on December 19, 2018 and ratified by the Dothan Commission on January 15, 2019. The 50 acres was removed from the Highway 84 East Master Plan in December 2025.

The discussion, as RSN understands, the 2018 and 2019 actions of the Dothan Planning Commission and then Dothan Commission would allow apartments to be constructed. But according to what RSN understands the issue was not properly advertised and residents notified back in 2018 and 2019. Years later when the residents surrounding this area and Hidden Lakes Subdivision found out, the residents of Twin Oaks, over 500 residents, objected and wanted the zoning changed.

The complaint asks the court for injunctive relief stopping the re-zoning stating the City of Dothan has not done this properly.

Some of this Highway 84 East Overlay project was first introduced to the Dothan City Commission, as I understand, under former Dothan Commissioner of District 3 Albert Kirkland. The vote then surfaced after Bradley Bedwell unseated D3 Commissioner Albert Kirkland in the election. Then D3 Commissioner Bradley Bedwell learned of this when recently campaigning for re-election and was told by many homeowners they were not aware of and objected to the rezoning.

RSN does not claim to know all of the facts, but the above is a basic description as I know it. The re-zoning was in a 4-2 vote with Mayor Saliba absent from the meeting, D5 Commissioner Gant Pierce and D6 Commissioner David Crutchfield voting NO on the zoning change and D1 Commissioner Daniels, D2 Commissioner Kirksey, D3 Commissioner Bedwell and D4 Commissioner Stock voting in favor of the re-zoning.

Now the case headed to Houston County Circuit Court to be heard by 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Todd Derrick.

The court action was filed this morning at 9:01 AM. The defendants will have 30 days to respond after served the complaint and then will be set for a hearing.

BELOW, you will find video of the December 2, 2025 Commission Meeting in question, the Injunction filed by Attorney Stephen Etheredge, Exhibit 1 which contains the legal description, the document presented at the December 2, 2025 Commission Meeting for the public hearing and the December 2, 2025 resolution passed on a 4 – 2 vote which has resulted in this injunction.
