HEADLAND: 5:20 PM. Law Enforcement was on Highway 431 North of Headland. There was a southbound vehicle reported to have been traveling about 100 miles per hour.
The vehicle refused to stop and was wrapped up with law enforcement when the vehicle entered Headland.
The vehicle was driven by a female. Reports are she stated that she was trying to get to the hospital because she had a miscarriage.
Headland Fire – Rescue responded to the scene. Reports are the female was transported to the hospital.
Reports are some of the officers were discussing carrying her to jail or writing tickets. She did not go to the jail but to the hospital.
If the officer gave a ticket, and true she had a miscarriage and was scared, perhaps the officer needs to try being pregnant!!!
I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I will NOT be seeking a fourth term as your Sheriff. I recently added another year to my birthdays and realize that at 66 years of age I am still young enough to enjoy a few years of retirement. I have served the citizens of Geneva County in law enforcement since1981. I have been with Geneva County Sheriff’s Office since 1986. During my career I have sacrificed time from my family because of my service. I missed ball games, birthday parties, school events and family gatherings. It’s now time to try and make that up to my family.
It has been my honor serving the people of Geneva County and surrounding area. Over the last few weeks as I have discussed the idea of retirement, I have had an overwhelming response to stay in and I thank you, but it is time for God to lead me on a different path.
I will still be with you until a new Sheriff takes office in January of 2027 and will still serve as I always have. Over the next few months, you will have time to pray and plan of who you want in that position. I know you will choose the most qualified candidate that will protect and serve God, and all the citizens of the county.

Subject: Drowning Accident in Geneva County
At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Geneva County E-911 received a call reporting an accident involving a zero-turn lawn mower and a possible drowning on Rosewood Road near Samson.
Upon arrival, law enforcement and emergency medical personnel discovered Mr. Doyce Windham, age 78, in a pond located on his property. Mr. Windham was pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Windham was mowing the grass along the bank of the pond when the lawn mower slid into the water, causing him to be ejected.
The Geneva County Coroner’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Windham during this difficult time. We would also like to express our appreciation to the Samson Volunteer Fire Department, Samson Rescue, Samson PD, and the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and continued service to our community.
DOTHAN 10:52 AM: Working structure fire at Blissett Drive at the apartments. Will update when I get more information.
UPDATED @ 11:51 AM Multiple Dothan Fire Engine Companies responded to 200 Blissett Drive, Abby Oak Apartments, to a structure fire.
Dothan Fire Engine 4 ( Southside ) was already on a call and Dothan Fire Engine 2 ( Lakewood ) was responding as was other fire engine companies. When Dothan Fire Engine 2 crossed South Oates and Ross Clark Circle they reported heavy black smoke in the air.
As Engine 2 rolled in they reported smoke and flames visible, through the roof, this is a working structure fire. Dothan Fire Engine 10 ( West Main ) and another engine responded and was on the scene, Dothan Fire Ladder Truck from Central was on the scene, Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams was on the scene, Dothan Fire Rehab was on the scene, Dothan Police Patrol Lt. Jason Adkins and other Dothan Police Officers were on the scene.
The roof collapsed within 2 minutes of Dothan Fire Engine 2 arriving. A resident was upset because his cat was inside and the fireman were not entering. It was not safe for the fireman to enter because the fire was to hot and the roof had already collapsed. DOTHAN FIRE DEPARTMENT CARES ABOUT ANIMALS. But it was unsafe. Once things cooled and safe to enter it was found the cat escaped and is alive and well.
The first order of business when Dothan Fire arrived was to check if any person was inside any of the apartments. It was declared that every person had escaped and was out of the apartment.
Dothan Utilities responded to disconnect electricity.
American Red Cross has been contacted to meet the immediate needs of the residents.
Dothan Fire responded to a structure fire just before this call. And while on this call responded to a medical call on West Main Street, Medical Alarm on Lakeside Drive, and a fire alarm on Jamestown Blvd. The fire department, police department, and most especially the 911 dispatchers never missed a beat and all did an outstanding job.
