Each morning, initial appearances are held for individuals who have not made bond. By law, these individuals must be seen by a judge or magistrate within 48 to 72 hours of their arrest. Judge Lewis ensures compliance with this requirement—even while on holiday, he or another judge conducts initial appearances at the Houston County Jail. These proceedings are held via video from the jail to the courtroom.
HONORABLE JUDGE BENJAMIN LEWIS presides over one traffic case involving a DUI.
HONORABLE HOUSTON COUNTY CIRCUIT-CRIMINAL JUDGE HENRY “BUTCH” BINFORD:
Judge Binford has 94 Circuit Criminal cases today, including charges of first-degree kidnapping, abuse of a corpse, first-degree sexual abuse, capital murder, and first-degree robbery.
