Martha A. Pope of Dothan passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the age of 87 in Dothan, Alabama. Born on September 11, 1937, in Alabama, Martha’s life was a testament to the joy and warmth she brought to everyone she met.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Stacy Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 3 P.M. Sunday, one hour prior to the service.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ray Herring and Annie Mae Hoffman Herring, and her siblings, George Herring, Lorraine Brunson Higgins, Erleen Wiggins, Bobbie Whitehead, and Mae Helon Friant. Her memory will be forever held in the hearts of those she leaves behind, including her devoted children, Jannie Franklin, Sara Lynn Johnson (Wayne), and Joey Pope (Lori). Her sisters, Dot Nixon and Sara Allgood, will miss her deeply, as will her adored grandchildren, James Franklin, Kate Pettis (Jonathan), and Joshua Pope (Elizabeth), along with her treasured great-grandchild, Callahan Pettis.
Martha’s life was one of engagement and enthusiasm. She was an avid fan of Wheel of Fortune and Alabama Football. Her love for games was unmatched, and she was known to be unbeatable.
A talented and creative soul, Martha was well known for her beautifully crafted Afghans. These hand-woven treasures were more than just blankets; they were emblems of Martha’s love and care, which she poured into every stitch. Her family invites those who were lucky enough to receive one of her Afghans to bring them to the service and drape them over the pews.
Martha’s legacy will live on not only through her family but also through the countless lives she touched with her benevolent spirit.
Ruby Lee Exum, affectionately known to all as Granny, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, at the age of 98, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on September 23, 1926, in Dale County, Alabama, Ruby’s warm presence and spirited nature will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Granny Ruby was a force of nature, a woman whose spirit was as vibrant as the gardens she tended with such care. She was the sweetest Christian lady you’d ever meet, with a faith so strong it could move mountains. She was the backbone of her family, stepping up to help raise her younger siblings after their mother passed away, proving early on that she was as tough as nails with a heart of gold.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Web Exum; her son-in-law, Billy Mims; her granddaughter, Lynn Morrison; her great-granddaughters, Avery Exum and Cassy Brooks; her parents, Oscar and Ellen Blankenship Brooks; her sisters, Ruth Hearn and Francis Duke; and her brothers, Pete Brooks, Frank Brooks, Bill Brooks, and Houston Brooks, Ruby was the last survivor of her siblings. Her memory will live on through her loving family.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Ellen Clark (Earl), and her son, Danny Exum (Gail); grandchildren, Johnny Mims (Amanda), Brandy Exum (Mickey), Johnathan Exum (Mondae), and Eric Exum (Dawn); 11 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her spirit of love and kindness. Ruby also leaves behind special friends Larry Dulaney and Kasey Morris, who were dear to her heart.
A special thank you is extended to the nurses and staff at Extendicare Health and Rehab for loving Granny as their own. You are the unsung heroes who provided comfort and care with a smile that matched her own.
Known for her love of flowers, Ruby found joy in helping in the garden and playing dominos. Her laughter was a common sound when she was with her grandchildren or attending the Cottonwood Senior Citizen Center. Ruby’s adventurous spirit shone through her enjoyment of fishing and her participation in delivering meals to homebound seniors with Kasey. Even in her quiet moments, she found solace in drinking coffee and reading her Bible.
Funeral Services for Ruby Lee Exum will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Earl Clark officiating. She will be laid to rest at Howard Grove Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories from 1:30 p.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home.
Malcom F. Walker, Jr., a resident of Dothan, Alabama died on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00PM on Friday, September 5, 2025 in Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Brigham officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 3:00PM until 4:00PM.

Malcom was born to the late Malcom and Esther Raybon Walker in Dothan, Alabama on February 21, 1945. After earning his degree from Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida, he began a career in the drapery industry. He was the owner and operator of Walker Drapery Service for forty-one years until his retirement in 2018. He married the love of his life, Mary Martha Walker, for fifty-six years. He enjoyed taking long trips with friends, his fondest trip was going to the Ark in Williamstown, Kentucky. Making lasting memories with his family was his ultimate joy, especially watching his grandchildren at sporting events. His hobbies include playing golf, softball, watching any type of sporting event, and cheering on his beloved Crimson Tide in the fall. “Roll Tide!” He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of Baysprings Baptist Church. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Malcom is preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary Martha Walker; son, Eric Walker (Jennifer); daughter, Mariann Fraedrich (Nicholas); brother, Tim Walker (Sherryl); five grandchildren, Tiffany Walker, Tyler Walker, Brooke Fraedrich, Dalton Fraedrich, Greyson Fraedrich; numerous cousins, nieces, and many friends.

MIDLAND CITY. . .Arthur Brent Marshall, a resident of Midland City, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 2, 2025, in a Dothan hospital. He was 63.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 4, 2025, in the Sylvan Grove Methodist Church with Reverend Michael B. Proffitt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Brent Marshall was a lifelong resident of Midland City. He was a 1980 graduate of Dale County High School and attended Auburn University. Brent was the owner and operator of Philip’s Parking Lot Maintenance for over twenty-three years. He was a member of Sylvan Grove Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gene Marshall.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Kimberly Nauman Marshall; a daughter, Anna Marshall McLaney (Kade), Ashford; a son, Cody Marshall (Dominique), Midland City; and two step-sons, Derek Galloway and Dylan Galloway, both of Wicksburg; his mother, Barbara Register Marshall, Midland City; three brothers, David Marshall, Midland City; Bob Marshall (Robin), Auburn; and John Marshall (Betsy), Midland City; grandchildren, Brinleigh Marshall and Grayson Marshall; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be David Marshall, Bob Marshall, John Marshall, Cody Marshall, Jeff Warrick and Jeff Warrick, II.

Robert Earl Harrell of Geneva, AL passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025. He was 81.

Robert was born in Crestview, FL on November 11, 1943 to the late James Carl and Louise Quida Holmes Harrell. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was retired from the US Air Force Reserves after 22 years of service. Robert was a hard worker, always striving to provide the best for his family. Everything he did was to make life better for his family and see that their needs were met. He was an avid Auburn Tiger Fan. He was a faithful member of Eden Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Mom, Esther Ruth Kirkland Harrell, the lady who raised him and loved him as her own; three brothers, Joe Carl, Donald Rance and Arthur Glen Harrell; and one sister, Quida Lorene Sullivan.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Laura Lynette Driggers Harrell; four children, Teresa Barnes (Louie Flowers), Michael Harrell (Wanda), Danny Harrell and Randy Harrell (Teri); 12 grandchildren, numerous special great grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Clark and Wanda Wooten and a host of special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
