Bailie Martin Welk, a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend, went to her final resting place on Sunday, April 20, 2025. She was 37.

Bailie was born and raised in Dothan, Alabama to the late Terri Lynn Pipkin and Faron Paul Martin. A country girl at heart, Bailie enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved fishing, chasing sunsets, swinging, being outdoors, art, photography, and animals. Most of all, she loved her kids and loved spending time with them.

She was an employee of Waffle House for 10+ years. She is preceded in death by her mother, Terri Lynn Pipkin; and her grandparents, Reverend Tommy and Louise Martin and Leroy and Nell Rea Adams.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Kadence and Carter Welk, of Ashford; her father, Faron Martin (Gloria); her step-dad, Glen Pipkin; her sisters, Holli Chesnut (Patrick) and Laurie Duck (Russell), Amy Franklin (Joey), and Melissa Barber (Evan); several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; numerous friends…all of Dothan; a very special Uncle DeWayne (Cecil) Adams of Hernando Beach, Florida. Bailie also leaves behind a lot of special friends; her two best friends, Amanda McGehee and Nikki Webb, and dear friend Joe. She also loved her customers who she adored so much at Waffle House.

A Celebration of Bailie’s life will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Faith Tabernacle Community Church with Reverend Ricky Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until 3 PM, prior to the service at the church. Casual attire is requested.

Bailie was a light shining bright. May her light never go out.

Hazel Jones Trawick

Hazel Jones Trawick, a lifetime resident of Dothan, passed away on April 21, 2025 at Westside Terrace in Dothan. She was 87 years old.

Hazel was born to the late Bud and Adell Jones on July 6, 1937. Hazel was one of twelve siblings. She was a graduate of Wicksburg High School. Following high school, Hazel began her long-time career as a beautician. A faithful member of Mt. Gilead throughout her life, Hazel’s commitment to her faith was unwavering. She served her church community with the same servant’s heart she showed to her family, always ready to meet the needs of others. Her beautiful alto voice was a beloved addition to the harmonies she sang with her sisters. Hazel was a skilled seamstress and an exceptional cook.

Above all, Hazel was a wonderful mother. Her children and grandchildren knew they were loved unconditionally, and her guidance and support were the cornerstones of their lives. Her servant’s heart was most evident in the way she cared for her family, always putting their needs above her own.

Hazel is survived by her husband of 69 years, William Earl Trawick; three children, Pam Trawick Vinson (Greg) of Dothan, AL, Greg Trawick (Cindy) of Franklin, NC, and Lana Trawick Allen of Dothan, AL; eight grandchildren, Mandi Vinson Carlson (Richard), Marci Vinson Bocanegra (Jesse), Marah Vinson Woods (Justin), Patrick Trawick (Aimee), Garreth Trawick (Emily), Daniel Allen (Emily), Shannon Allen Lusk (James), and Mallory Allen. She was also blessed with 24 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride into her life.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her son-in-law Randy Allen.

A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Mount Gilead Baptist Church with her grandson Patrick Trawick and Brother Danny Williams officiating. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.

Herbert Troy Spencer

Herbert Troy Spencer, age 46, passed away on April 15, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on August 26, 1978, in Newark, New Jersey, Herbert brought light and laughter to those around him throughout his life. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025, 2pm at Fowler Family Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin at 1pm.

He attended North View High School in Dothan, Alabama. Known for his strong work ethic and friendly demeanor, Herbert worked as a cashier at SunStop, where he greeted customers with warmth and humor that left a lasting impression.

Herbert was deeply devoted to his family. He is lovingly remembered by his son Jaquan Tripp and daughter Keshawnna Spencer. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Jakobi Tripp and Akai Fish. He also leaves behind his father Charles Dunlap; brothers Michael Smith, Trevor Spencer, and William Spencer; and sisters Karen Dunlap, Mellissa Smith, Juanita Flakes, and Jasmine Spencer. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins also mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his mother Annie Spencer and brothers Shawn Spencer and Rashad Spencer.

Herbert will be remembered not only for the love he gave but also for the joy he brought into every room. A legendary jokester with a heart full of compassion, he had an unmatched ability to make others laugh while offering strength during difficult times. Whether watching movies or spending time with family, Herbert found happiness in the simple moments that mattered most.

May Herbert’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire love and laughter in their hearts.

Mr. Gary Lester Flatt

Mr. Gary Lester Flatt, age 89, a resident of Pinckard, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Flowers Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Pinckard Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Philip Anderson officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing.

Flowers will be accepted.

Mr. Gary Lester Flatt was born in Jamestown, Kentucky on December 2, 1935 to Arthur and Ida Pearl Mason Flatt. He spent his early years in Kentucky and Indiana. He joined the Air Force at the age of seventeen and finished his GED while in the service. He retired from the Civil Service in communications in 1988. In 1989, he and his family moved to Dothan for his daughter to attend school at Troy University. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. He faithfully attended early morning McDonald’s coffee group every morning. He was known as a tinker and fixer of cars, radios, and life’s problems.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of forty-seven years, Bonny Flatt; sisters, Versa Flatt Ingle and Thena Caster; brother, James Flatt.

Survivors include his daughter, Tracy Miller (Michael), Dothan; grandchildren, Ashley Baxley (Weston) of Dothan, Hunter Curran (Kelsey) of Kansas City, MO, Philip Curran III of Huntsville; two step grandchildren, Katelyn Miller and Carly Orlando (Tom); great grandchildren, Abigail Baxley, Clayton Baxley, and Quincy Curran.

COTTONWOOD… Alexis Lily Rose Hartfield, was born into Heaven on Saturday, April 18, 2025, at Flowers Hospital.

An angel is sitting on Jesus’s lap. She is surrounded by other angels and dear loved ones that she got to meet for the first time. We never know why the good Lord chooses the angels he does, but we do know his plan is bigger and better than anything we can imagine. Please keep this precious family in your prayers.

SUSAN SHIVERS COVINGTON

MIDLAND CITY – Susan Shiver Covington, a resident of Midland City, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at HCA Ft. Walton Hospital. She was 61.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Ms. Shiver was born in Headland, Alabama, to the late Dob Shiver and Lottie M. German Shiver. She attended high school locally and was known for her fun-loving spirit, warm heart, and creative hands. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially fishing, where she loved spending quiet mornings by the water, casting a line and soaking in the peace of nature. She also had a competitive streak and a playful heart, often found at bingo with a big smile, lucky charms in hand, and always ready to shout “Bingo!” before anyone else.

She was a talented crafter who poured her love into every handmade blanket and piece of clothing she created—gifts that now serve as lasting treasures for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dot Shiver; her brother, John D. Shiver; and a great-grandchild, M.J. Liles.

Left to cherish her memories, are her children, Michael Dwayne Covington (Christian Payne) and Gail Liles; spouse, John Sanders;  her grandchildren, Hollie Nicole Liles, Mason Andrew Liles, Allison Kay Liles, Jacqueline Joyce Covington, and Logan Dewayne Covington; her great-grandchildren, Lucas, McKenna, and Amelia; her sister, Linda Faye Cummings; her brother, Tony Shiver; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Susan will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
