June 1, 1943-February 24, 2025

Linda Jean Bullard Ness passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, in Berkeley, California, with her son and son-in-law by her side.

Linda was born in Dothan, Alabama, on June 1, 1943, at Moody Hospital to Agnes Watson Bullard and Charles Henderson Bullard. She spent her very early years in Henry County before moving to Dothan, Alabama. She attended Minnie T. Heard Elementary School, Young Jr. High School, and Dothan High School. She moved to Greensboro, Alabama, and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1961.

Linda loved talking about her brothers, Ted, Terry, and Matt, or as she called them her “Bubbas”. They were all very close growing up in their hometown of Dothan.

Linda worked in administration at UCSF Hospital in San Francisco before her retirement and then enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband, Steve.
Linda loved her family, and even though she lived in San Francisco, she kept up with every member of her family through visits and phone calls. She always ended the phone calls with “I love you! Kisses!”

Those who knew Linda described her as unique, loving, generous, and well-read, especially in British and American literature. She was an expert in grammar and was always willing to provide grammatical tips to her friends and family.

Watching SEC football, especially her Alabama Crimson Tide, cooking delicious meals for her family, and reading were her favorite pastimes.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Steven Ness, and her brother Ted Watson Bullard.

Mr. James H. Roney

Mr. James H. Roney

James Herbert Roney, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, left this world peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 94, in Dothan, Alabama.

Born on July 23, 1930, in Headland, Alabama to the late Herbert Roney and Lucy Owens Roney, James’s life was a testament to his faith-filled and passionate spirit. He was a friendly soul whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.

James shared a blissful life with his beloved wife, Anne Chapman Roney. Together, they raised a family that included their children, all of whom will cherish the memories of their good Daddy: Mike Roney (Debra), Gary Roney (Christine), Patti Godwin (Joe), and Cheryl Susemichel (Larry). He was a proud patriarch to his grandchildren, Christopher Roney, Stephanie Susemichel, Emily Susemichel, Dajun Godwin (Jamie), Rowan Godwin (Abby), and Kealani Roney; and he delighted in the joy of his great-grandchildren, Vivian, Caroline, Kyle, Lara Leah, Emerson, Cailin, Giovanah, and Bridger. James’s only brother, Tom Roney (Kay), also survives him and continues to cherish the memories they shared throughout their lives. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the sitters, Sherry, Beverly, Gentiva Hospice, and all who provided compassionate support in helping James care for his wife, Anne.

James’s brief stint at Auburn University was cut short by homesickness, but his entrepreneurial spirit was not to be dampened. He found his calling in the grocery business, owning and operating Roney IGA until his retirement at the age of 80. Under his guidance, the business grew to include several stores, each one a testament to his dedication and hard work.

His passion for life was evident in his many interests. James was an avid aviator, having loved to fly small aircraft. His younger years were spent crop dusting for extra money, a job that combined his love for flying with practicality. His voice, a harmonious instrument, found its home in a gospel quartet, traveling extensively to share music that touched countless hearts. An angler at heart, James loved to fish, finding solace and joy in the stillness of nature.

James was also known as a mentor whose wisdom was sought after by many. He had a gift for offering words of comfort and guidance, and his impact on those he mentored was profound. His membership at Cornerstone Church was a reflection of his commitment to his faith and community, where he was respected and loved by many.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Cornerstone Church with Reverend Bobby Marks officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM to 2 PM, one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s hospital or the Wiregrass Area Food Bank Brown Bag Program.

As we bid farewell to James Herbert Roney, we celebrate a life beautifully lived. His story does not end with his passing but continues in the memories cherished by his loved ones and the countless lives he touched. James’s journey on earth may have concluded, but the love he shared and the wisdom he imparted will forever be etched in the hearts of his family and friends.
