Lori Hughes

Lori Hughes, age 61, resident of Ashford passed away on Tuesday, December 31st, 2024. Lori took her last breath while holding her daughter’s hand and in the presence of loved ones. She was a caring daughter, loving mother, wonderful friend, and excited Nana-to- be.

Lori was the epitome of dynamite comes in small packages, and never met a stranger. Though her body was small, her heart was infinite. She was quick to forgive and forget, unless someone she loved was hurt. Lori would quickly jump to the defense of others. Even if that meant asking the racetrack flag man if he needed her glasses after a bad call was made on part of her racing family.

Lori understood and appreciated the simple pleasures life had to offer, like fishing, thrifting, listening to music, or enjoying an Alabama football game. Even though she was cursed to have raised an FSU fan. These things were even better when shared with her family and friends.

Lori was prepared and at peace, eager to be reunited with those who proceeded her in death including the love of her life, “Peewee” Gilbert Hughes, brother-in-law Jackie Hughes, father “Chuck” Benny Knight, and her best friend, Tony Ingram.

She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Obed Gomez, mother Martha Lay, brother James Brady, special loved ones Dustin, Summer and Cara, two very special friends Angela Stewart and Angie Turvin, and a lifetime of people who were blessed to know her.

Per Lori’s wishes, no service will be held. Instead, take a few extra minutes to tell someone you love them and enjoy the simple pleasures.
