Julia Ellen Kirk Devault, passed away on June 26, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 77.

Born on June 5, 1949, at her home in West Virginia, Julia, named after her midwife, lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and quiet strength. She was a woman who gave generously of herself to others and was known throughout her family and community for being thoughtful, selfless, and deeply loving. Her life was centered on caring for people, and she carried that spirit with her in every season of life.

Julia spent her early years working hard and learning the value of responsibility and service. Over the course of her life, she held several jobs, including cleaning homes, caring for others, retail management, driving a bus, working in a bank as well as doing bookkeeping and accounting. No matter the role, she approached her work with diligence and integrity.

Family was the heart of Julia’s life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Q. Devault and was the loving mother of sons Jeff Workman (Jacqueline), and Barry Workman. She was a proud Mamaw to Justin Workman and Alysen Wilson, and a cherished Nanna to Julia Michelle Wicker. Julia was also the daughter of the late Floyd Kirk and the late Myrtle Lucille Perteé. She was preceded in death by her siblings Bill, Bobby, Stella, Shirley, Floyd Jr., Everett, Dessirea, and Marie. She is survived by her siblings, Linda, Brenda, Hazel, and Jimmie. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with a wide circle of friends and extended family who will forever remember her.

Julia was one of 13 children and carried the bonds of her large family with pride throughout her life. Her life journey took her from West Virginia to Wisconsin for a time, then to Ohio, and later to Florida, where she lived from 2017 until just two weeks before her passing. Wherever she lived, she made a home filled with care, comfort, and love.

Julia’s legacy is one of devotion, compassion, and steadfast love. She touched the lives of many through her work, her family, and her everyday acts of kindness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her, and she will be remembered with deep affection and gratitude. Though she is no longer with us, the example she set will continue to inspire all who carry her memory forward.
