OZARK…Beloved and devoted mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carol Wood Murphy, went to be with her Lord Jesus in heaven, on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the age of 97.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Murphy, Sr., her mother, Betty King Wood, and father, Alexander David Wood, and her siblings, Nan Stillings, Lida Landreth, Janie Wood, King Wood, Alexander David “Buddy” Wood, Jr. and Betty Storrs.
She is survived by her two sons, Joseph William Murphy, Jr (Laura), and John David Muirphy; grandchildren, Megan Claire Murphy and William Wade Murphy (Katie); two great-grandchildren, Clark Murphy and Theo Murphy, and many other beloved family.
Carol Murphy was born in 1929 in Columbia, Alabama, where she spent her childhood enjoying many days playing outdoors in creeks and climbing trees. She graduated from Montevallo College and then became a schoolteacher in Sylacauga, Alabama at B.B. Comer High School.
Carol was known for her devotion to her Christian faith, her talent as an artist, and her love of gardening. Her favorite flower was the camelia. She was also an avid letter writer and a proficient cook. Carol had a sharp wit and a wry sense of humor despite her often-quiet demeanor.
It was Carol’s wish to be cremated. There will be no public funeral services. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.
