Ruby Jeanette McCurley, known affectionately as Jeanette by her loved ones, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 82. Born on September 18, 1943, in Hodgesville, Alabama. Jeanette’s journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and her appreciation for the simple joys of nature.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents, James William Glover and Audrey Clements Glover; her husband, James W. McCurley; her brothers, Lamon Glover, Frazier Glover, Doyle Glover, and James Glover; and her sisters, Dorothy Brown and Judy Tiberio.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Calloway and Lamar Calloway; her granddaughters, Ashley Simmons, Brook Blankenship, Skylar LaRue-Calloway, and Rebecca Lauren Calloway, and her great-grandchildren, Ian Simmons and Nora Jade LaRue, and a special nephew, Tim Brown, holds dear the memories and lessons imparted by Jeanette.
Jeanette’s life was a beautiful portrait of a loving mother and grandmother, a strong woman of faith who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her hands, always ready to tend to her flower beds and garden, reflected her nurturing spirit. She cherished spending time in nature, whether it was on her annual beach trip with her sons or enjoying the thrill of swamp boats. As a military wife and a traveling evangelist preacher’s wife, she was a pillar of support for her husband, and her passion for Alabama Football was unmatched.
A celebration of Jeanette’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Hodgesville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will welcome friends from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service, sharing stories and honoring the remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
