Fred was educated in the Brooklyn public school system and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He was a proud member of the Drum & Bugle Corps, the “Wynn Center Toppers,” and was known as a loyal “Topper brother.” Childhood friends fondly recalled how growing up in the Howard Houses would not have been the same without Fred and his brothers.

Fred was a devoted father who found great joy in raising his son, Eddie Marrero-McClain. He cherished time with family, especially his beloved grandsons, Eddie Jr. and Chase. Holidays, barbecues, and gatherings were among his happiest moments, where his humor, warmth, and unforgettable laugh lit up every room.

James “Donald” Brazzelle

James “Donald” Brazzelle

James Donald Brazzelle, known affectionately as Donald to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at his home in Wicksburg, Alabama. Born on July 18, 1951, Donald lived a life marked by kindness, service, and a deep love for the simple joys. His 74 years were a testament to a life well-lived and well-loved.

Donald was the beloved husband of Merry Brazzelle, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage filled with devotion and mutual respect. Together they raised two wonderful children, Coby and Meghan Brazzelle, who were the center of Donald’s world. His legacy of love and strength lives on through them and the lessons he imparted.

Predeceased by his parents, Onyx Holloway and John Brazzelle, Donald grew up in a lively household with his siblings, brothers Bobby and David Brazzelle, and sister Olivia Brazzelle Rudd. The family expanded over the years to include several cousins, nieces, nephews, cherished pets and his in-laws, all of whom Donald loved dearly. His kind and friendly nature meant that he never met a stranger, and his circle of friends grew wide and deep over the years.

Donald attended Wicksburg High School, where he carried the knowledge of his youth throughout his life. His service to the country as a member of the Army for two years was a source of pride for him and his family. After his military service, Donald dedicated many years as an electrician with Alabama Electric, where his work ethic and reliability were highly valued.

Donald was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He had a nonchalant and simple approach to life, finding beauty and satisfaction in the small things. Acts of service were second nature to him; he would do anything for anybody, always with a smile. He treasured his family, and he demonstrated his love for them through daily gestures of kindness and support.

Tinkering and working in his shed, sitting with his ‘Sweetie’ in their swing, going to the mountains, and helping others were among Donald’s favorite pastimes. He found solace in these moments of quiet reflection and joy in the beauty of nature. His hands, often stained with the evidence of a project in progress, were a symbol of his dedication to the craft and the people he served.

A celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 11am in the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel with Bro. Buddy Hood officiating. A gathering to share memories of Donald’s life will be held following the service from 12:00pm until 1:00pm on Monday.

Donations in his memory may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, to a local hospice, or through blood and platelet contributions at local blood banks or the Red Cross. These gifts were such an important part of his care, a source of comfort to our family, and will continue to bring hope and support to other patients and loved ones walking a similar journey.
