HEADLAND… Verna Josephine Nowlin, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle. She was 67.
Memorial services will be held 5:30 P.M. Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Pastor Ernie Gray officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Nowlin was born in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late B.C. Kent and Mary Couch Kent. She later moved to the Wiregrass area, where she spent the majority of her life surrounded by the people and places she loved most.
She will be fondly remembered for her vibrant spirit, humor, and the joy she brought to her family and friends. Mrs. Nowlin had a flair for color, with a special love for purple and red. She delighted in word searches, shopping, and could often be found enjoying her favorite television shopping network, QVC. She was known as an impulse buyer, always discovering “unnecessary” treasures that made her and those around her smile.
Her family often laughed at her tendency to “Go Live” on Facebook without realizing it, a reflection of the lightheartedness she carried through life. One of her most cherished traditions was having her nails done by her daughter, Jessica, a simple act that became a meaningful bond between them.
Mrs. Nowlin was a devoted Alabama football fan. Though she sometimes enjoyed a nap during a game, she would wake with perfect timing to cheer proudly, “Roll Tide!” She also loved the serenity of the beach, where she found rest and happiness.
Above all, Mrs. Nowlin’s greatest joy was her family. She treasured time spent with her loved ones and created countless memories that will live on in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, B.C. Kent, and Mary Couch Kent; sister, Mary Collins; brothers, Robert Couch, PeeWee Kent, Bobby Lee Kent, and Butch Kent.

DALEVILLE…Emery Rodriguez, a resident of Daleville, died Sunday morning, September 14, 2025, in Dale Medical Center in Ozark. She was 43.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 20, 2025, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Chris Boutin officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rodriguez was born on March 26, 1982, in the beautiful town of Arecibo, Puerto Rico—a place full of sunshine, ocean breeze, and the kind of warmth that seemed to live in her spirit. She spent part of her life in Interlachen, Florida, before settling in the Wiregrass area in 2013, where she built a life filled with love, laughter, and deep connections.
She worked as a recruiter with Wayne Farms in Jack, Alabama, and also with Advantage Resources in Dothan. In both roles, she was known not just for her professionalism, but for her kindness and her ability to make people feel seen and valued. She had a gift for lifting others up, even when she herself was carrying heavy burdens.
The beach was her sanctuary. She could sit for hours watching the waves roll in, feeling the sand between her toes, and smiling at the sight of sea turtles gliding through the water. Nature brought her peace, but nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her family—especially her grandchildren, who lit up her world. Her love for them was endless, and she cherished every moment spent in their company, whether it was a quiet afternoon at home or a lively family gathering.
Mrs. Rodriguez had a flair for beauty and elegance. She adored roses—their fragrance, their grace, their symbolism. She had a soft spot for perfume, high heels, and cosmetics, not out of vanity, but because they made her feel confident and radiant. Her favorite color was purple, a shade that matched her vibrant personality and the quiet strength she carried within her.
What truly set her apart was her heart. She was the kind of person who would give you her last dollar, her last ounce of energy, her last bit of hope—just to make sure you were okay. Even when she didn’t have much, she gave everything she could. Her generosity wasn’t just in what she did, but in how she made people feel: loved, supported, and never alone.
She carried deep sorrow too, having been preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Jackie Shareen Uribe. That loss left a permanent ache in her heart, but she honored Jackie’s memory every day through her strength, her compassion, and the love she poured into her family.
Mrs. Rodriguez will be remembered not just for the things she did, but for the way she made people feel—safe, loved, and uplifted. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, and her spirit will forever be part of the stories we tell, the laughter we share, and the love we continue to give.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Victor O. Solorio; her children, Kasandra Uribe, Bianca Shireen Uribe and Victor O. Solorio, Jr.; her parents, Villalon Rodriguez and Olga Iris Martinez; siblings, Villalon Rodriguez Figueroa, Gloria Rodriguez Figueroa, Javier Rodriguez Martinez, Sherilyn Rodriguez Martinez, Yarelys Rodriguez Martinez, and Sullynette Rodriguez Martinez; two grandchildren, Yaneli Sofia Cruz and Nessiah Dawayne Peterson; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
