My Grandpa met the Lord yesterday.
I heard your voice the other day,
A whisper soft, but clear as day.
A memory wrapped in love so true,
A gentle sign that came from you.
You lived with strength, you stood so tall,
A man of faith who gave his all.
A fireman’s heart, a sailor’s pride,
With God and family by your side.
You worked so hard to keep us safe,
You filled our lives with love and grace.
Through every trial, joy, and test,
You always gave your very best.
You loved your garden, hands in dirt,
Found joy in life, in work, in church.
Your chickens clucked, your flowers grew,
And in their bloom, I think of you.
You sang the hymns, you knew them well,
Each note a story you could tell.
You shared God’s word, you led the way,
With wisdom deep and faith that stayed.
And now you’re gone, but not too far,
I feel you, Grandpa, where you are.
In winds that blow and stars that shine,
In love that lives in hearts like mine.
“Goodnight, Rocky, wherever you are.”
I’ll carry your love, wherever I go.

Cynthia Ann McNab, a beacon of love and faith, was called home to her Lord and Savior on the 1st of March, 2025, leaving a legacy of grace and kindness that will forever be etched in the hearts of those she touched. Born in Mobile, Alabama, on April 14, 1947, Cynthia’s journey began, and it was one marked by devotion, both to her family and her unwavering faith.
Cynthia’s heart was a wellspring of love and generosity, traits that she shared freely with her beloved husband of 57 years, Rev. Myrice McNab, her cherished daughter, Dr. Melissa and her husband Paul Duprey, and her treasured granddaughter and best friend, Madison Duprey. Her sister-in-law, Sue Bradshaw, niece, Tonjia Lisenby, and a host of cousins also felt the warmth of her love. While Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys Thomley Ard Fisher, Gloyce Ard, and L. M. Fisher, and her grandmother, Dolan Grubbs Thomley, the memories and values she instilled in her family will live on for generations.
Cynthia’s life was a testament to her faith. She took her first step towards God when she was water baptized at the tender age of 8 at Southside Baptist Church. Her faith was nurtured by her grandparents; her grandfather, a Free Will Baptist Pastor in Pensacola, and her grandmother, ‘Big Mama’, who was the spiritual rock of the family after her grandfather’s passing. Cynthia’s mother, a certified Dental Assistant, provided for the family’s needs, while ‘Big Mama’ continued to guide her spiritually. It was at a Youth conference that God whispered His plan for her, a plan she followed with unwavering dedication.
Cynthia was an accomplished pianist, ministering in churches throughout her life. Cynthia’s love for cooking was legendary, her kitchen a place of gathering and joy for family and friends alike. She shared moments of laughter and love on shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughter, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Cynthia’s heart was an open door, always ready to forgive, to embrace, and to comfort those in need. She walked her faith daily, not merely speaking of love and compassion but living these virtues until her final days.
As we prepare to celebrate Cynthia’s life, we invite all those whose lives she touched to join us at 2 pm on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The service, officiated by Rev. Eddie Littlefield and Rev. Kip McKenzie, will be a time to honor and remember a woman whose life was a reflection of her loving, generous, and faith-filled spirit. Cynthia will be laid to rest in Pinckard Memorial Cemetery. The family looks forward to welcoming friends at the funeral home from 1:30-2 pm before we bid our final earthly farewell to a woman whose very essence was love itself.
